    Visual Artist
For me, my life changed in 2015.  My husband gave me a camera to help get me doing something I liked to do (nature photography) and to bring some happiness back into my life. In March 2015, I was taken by a friend to a local wetland park and fell in love with the wetlands and its inhabitants. Being out in the wilds of Florida helps to ground me and give me inner peace. The pictures I choose to share and sell are based upon the feeling I get from the composition of the picture. For me, balance and beauty are key to all my photographs. I want to share the beauty of the Florida wetlands and beaches with everyone. I am self-teaching myself about wildlife and habitat conservation and hope to get more involved in conservation in and around Florida. My other favorite place to visit and photograph are the 5 National Parks in Southern Utah and will include at my guest artist show some pictures from my latest visit. I also have a trip planned in November to take pictures of the birds and landscapes of Costa Rica. Through the University of Florida, I am working to get my Florida Master Naturalist certification and hope to have that completed by the end of the year. I am also looking to join the Audubon Society's Bird Steward program.  For me, photographing nature and wildlife is my passion, and though I started out late doing this, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
  • Matthew Valera
    Matthew Valera
    Photographer; Visual Artist
I go by Valera. I am an emerging artist in the Fort Lauderdale. My work ranges from photography to painting. My approach for each is different. My photography started in documentation and then progressed to making work. In that way I aim to capture something genuine and honest above all. Painting is a more internal subconscious approach. It's a way of putting subjects and tangible means to feelings that seem to have no origin in my brain. A means of understanding the world around me while giving my hands a way of dealing with anxiety. Photography I capture the world in front of me. Painting I create the world from the canvas up. Together the tie between the two provide a balancing yin yang effect, satisfying my creative nature.
  • Robyn Vegas
    Robyn Vegas
    Visual Artist
Robyn Vegas was born south of New Orleans into a strongly knit Cajun French family of artists. Growing up she fondly remembers spending weekends in the French Quarter where she was mesmerized by the local street artists, performers and Jazz musicians. It was a unique blend of the local cultures that gave her a deep appreciation for the varied customs, back grounds and ethnicities she was surrounded by. It’s no surprise that she choose art as her profession, first as an art teacher and later in arts administration. She currently is the Program Coordinator for Business for the Arts of Broward, a non-profit organization that brings business leaders together to advocate for our arts and culture. Her philosophy on art is one that ensures that she does something not just for herself, but for others. Vegas describes herself as a “creator.” She works with paper, color pencil, ink, graphite, oil paint, collage and mixed media. Robyn Vegas’ current work explores the theme of historical perceptions of women, celebrating their strength and inner beauty. I want to awaken an appreciation for the spiritual qualities manifested through my paintings and sculptures. “If my work touches someone else, then I am rewarded because it is meant to inspire the viewer. This goal pushes me to grow with my creativity and skill. I want people to stop and appreciate that beauty is all around them,” said Vegas.

    Dancer; Photographer; Visual Artist
Melissa Vlahos studied at Youngstown State University in Ohio and majored in Visual Art and Multi-Age Licensure in Art Education. She received a Bachelors of Science in Education, and taught high school art before falling in love and being swept away to the magical land, Greece. Vlahos says, "Living here has shaped and solidified my choices of subject matter because I explored and discovered my passion for the beauty in nature and how it mimics my inner emotions. Nature has showed me all her raw, natural magnificence and I feel a connection to it that I enjoy transmitting through artistic expression. I'm drawn to it; I center myself and become present in the moment. The experience moves me and the feelings inside of me flow from my internal world out onto a canvas or through a photograph."
