  • Luis Mario Ochoa
    Luis Mario Ochoa
    Musician
Guitarist, vocalist, composer, arranger and band leader Luis Mario Ochoa, the Cuban-born, Toronto based musician, released his fifth album Forever Lecuona, on April 6, 2022. A tribute to world renowned Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona – known as the Gershwin of Cuba – the album features ten of some of the legendary artist’s most beloved compositions, presented in a concert style recital program. As the primary force behind the emergence of Cuban music around the world in the early 20th century, Lecuona’s compositions encapsulated the spirit of Cuban, African and Spanish influences producing a library of music across multiple genres including popular songs, piano solo compositions, as well as music for theater, ballet and opera. Ochoa’s desire to pay homage to Lecuona began when he moved to Miami in 2014 to start a new chapter in his life and career. With a vast selection of music to choose from, he wanted to mirror Lecuona’s ample array of styles, by featuring his tropical songs, congas, boleros, criollas, Afro Cuban dances and a Sevillana flavored song. A multi-faceted musician, Luis Mario emigrated to Toronto from Cuba in 1990 after receiving a BA in classical guitar at the University of Havana, Instituto Superior de Artes. In Canada, he expanded his musical career as guitarist, vocalist, composer, arranger and band leader. His first album A La Cubana (1995) was among the first Latin recordings to be released in Canada and the first from a Cuban born musician.

Artist and Educator.  I use traditional landscape compositional devices as the framework for abstract painting. In both  my fresco and oil paintings I explore the transcendent and ecstatic.  My artwork is informed by traditional techniques of painting.  The limited palette of natural earth colors as well as the compartmentalization of scenes comes out of the process and compositional  devices of Early Renaissance painting. My artwork has been exhibited in New York, California, Maryland,  Maine and Washington. D.C.           An image of one of my frescoes will be featured in the technique section of the  3rd edition of "Gateway to the Arts"the leading art appreciation textbook used in colleges and advanced placement courses,  Published by Thames & Hudson. (fall 2018)  In the fall I will be presenting hands-on fresco workshops at colleges.   Studied: Hunter College, School of Visual Arts, Skowhegan School of Painting, Art Students league.   Formerly Director of Boca Raton Museum Art School; Educational Alliance Art School, NY; J.Paul Getty Museum Education Department

  • Debbie Orta
    Debbie Orta
    Musician
Highly-acclaimed jazz vocalist Debbie Orta performs swinging jazz, funky soul, and sultry ballads, always accompanied by the best musicians. “Soulful”, “enchanting”, “captivating”, are some of the words used to describe Debbie’s voice that has the influence and polish of Nancy Wilson, Carmen McCrea, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald. She will give you goosebumps on songs from Cole Porter and Duke Ellington to David Sanborn and Norah Jones among many other favorites from The Great American Songbook. The extremely personable Debbie Orta also sings in Portuguese and often her arrangements have a Latin feel thanks to her Puerto Rican roots. Debbie has performed in numerous concerts and clubs in South Florida, including frequent appearances at the world-famous Setai South Beach. She and her fabulous band opened for legendary jazz-fusion group, Spyro Gyra, at SunFest 2009 in West Palm Beach. Born in the Bronx, New York, Debbie toured the world with Latin superstars Jose Luis Rodriguez and Chayanne as a backup singer/dancer. Describing herself as a perpetual student of jazz, Debbie explores beyond the traditional boundaries in her CD, “Obsession”. Ask where she gets her chops and she'll tell you it comes from listening to great players and performing live before an audience, singing from the heart and being true to herself. Her goal is to make people happy by performing great music. In describing her performances, The Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel say, “…a great voice”, “…the lady can sing!”
