  • Haydee Rancel
    Haydee Rancel
Visual Artist; Mixed Media / Fine Art Mosaics
I am a Cuban born and Florida raised, self taught mixed media and mosaic artist. I am passionate about the creative arts and like expressing myself through different mediums. I've always been passionate about the arts and creating. I feel that my art is energy in (E)motion expressed through various forms. Mainly I paint with acrylics and work with glass making mosaics. I also appreciate texture and love using bold and vibrant colors! Aesthetically I'm drawn to clean and sharp lines and designs with geometric shapes and use any and all mediums available to me. Sometimes I incorporate other materials like mirrors, gold leaf, kraft paper or other natural objects with my pieces. I love repurposing things to give them a new life! There is so much in this world that creatively and artistically inspires me! I'm a huge nature lover so I can say a lot of my inspiration comes from just admiring God's own artwork but most of the time it happens intuitively and spontaneously. I've always been a dreamer and can appreciate the beauty in the most ordinary things. Normally my work ends up transforming through the process on it's own and I just enjoy the ride while creating each piece. It's a balanced combination of spontaneous creativity and intuitive feeling! I would say my artwork reflects my own life journey through self-discovery and spirituality, mostly creating by personal experience. Commissions and custom orders are always welcomed!

  • Lendell Roberts
    Lendell Roberts
Filmmaker; Photographer; Visual Artist; Graphic Designer
Miami born artist of African American and Bahamian decent. As a graduate of Miami-Dade College, Grambling State University (HBCU), and Digital Media Arts College (now Lynn University) I have explored many facets of the digital and fine art spectrums from graphic design to pottery and so many others in between. While I have focused primarily in graphic design, photography, and abstract fine art, I have also experimented with video, website design, and motion graphics. My artwork ranges from Political to "Feel Good" in nature while striving to be aesthetically pleasing. My major influence for my work comes from my child hood view of my surroundings in inner city Miami as a member of a lower income class. Watching neighborhood trends shift, gentrification and other systematic plans continue to take affect, and new ones enacted, has lent itself to be a focal point of my artistry as the continued support for resolution is still at hand.
  • Jonathan Rockford
    Jonathan Rockford
    Visual Artist
Early foundations in fine-woodworking and pottery were my foray into art making. Working both the second & third shifts on loading docks and as a janitor for over a decade, while gradually pursuing my undergraduate studies, also significantly influenced my interests as an artist. Later graduate work led to an MA in Liberal Studies from the University of Miami, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The combination of these experiences help provide practical, historical, critical and theoretical frameworks for my artwork. Some of my individual work has been featured at the Torrance Art Museum; the Frost Art Museum; the Union League of Chicago; Art Monaco; Scope - Basel, Miami & New York; and in ArtPulse Magazine. As a 2014-15 recipient of an Arts, Science & Culture Collaborative Initiative Grant from the University of Chicago, I was teamed up with a Physicist, Martin Scheeler, to explore what tactile experiences might look like as digital information. This included designing and making our own crochet hook that digitally logged all motion of the crochet process in three dimensional space. This hook was then also used as a tool, or controller, to manipulate a video projection of the crochet process in real-time as one was using it. Together, we also developed a jacket, humorously coated in prickly flex sensors, that was designed to measure the pressure, varying intensity and duration of an embrace. Martin then wore this “hug-jacket” to an exhibition and sampled as much data as possible by asking complete strangers for a hug. In late 2017, a string of conversations with Neuroscientist & Software Developer turned Artist, Mike Hadley, led to the founding of the art collective Encoded Objects. Together, we explore how information and technological tools can help us visualize time, human experience, and interaction with the world around us in meaningful ways. This fruitful collaboration has led to participation in group exhibitions at the Lowe Art Museum, the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum in Maryland, Plexus Projects in Brooklyn (as part of Creative Tech Week), and the CICA Museum in South Korea. In 2019, we received a public art commission to produce a one-year living art piece for the Materials Research Institute through the Campus Arts Initiative at Penn State University in State College, PA. Both my personal art practice and work with Encoded Objects have a foundation here in Pompano Beach, FL. When not working on art projects, I also teach 3D Design and Art History part-time at Broward College; and can often be found at home cultivating our wildlife & butterfly certified garden while hanging out with family & feline friends.

  • Lu Ru
    Lu Ru
    Visual Artist
LuRu has been creating ceramic work since 1992.  She earned her BFA in Ceramics from the Ohio State University in 1995.  For the beginning of her career she predominantly made large scale figurative sculpture.  Increasingly, she began incorporating more materials into her works.  This mixed media direction led her to pursue a Masters Degree in Sculpture rather than Ceramics. While in graduate school she explored metal fabrication, casting, textiles and video.  After earning her MFA degree in 2004 she worked as an adjunct professor at Baton Rouge Community College and as the Special Events Coordinator at the Baton Rouge Gallery CCA.  Although she enjoyed teaching art appreciation, sculpture and design classes, she found the event position more interesting. Upon moving to Florida in 2006 she  continued her career in the event industry.  She spent four years designing  city wide and corporate events.  Although creating decor schemes was akin to large scale installation art,  she left the industry to return to her art. She returned with renewed vigor to ceramics and started her artisan tile company, Tortuga Tile Works, in 2010.  She is attracted to tiles because of their ornamental quality. In addition the press molding process allows for a large quantity to be produced economically.  She has been part of the indie craft scene and has sold individual tiles throughout the region.  The past few years she has been focused on larger scale custom works.
