  • Fabian Sanchez
    Fabian Sanchez
    Visual Artist
My name is Fabian Sanchez. I was born and raised in the lower east side of Manhattan, New York in the 70's. Although born in New York, I am proud of my Mexican heritage. Growing up, I liked to draw, then as I grew into my teenage years I discovered I would put my art on anything I considered a canvas; walls or trains. Growing up in NYC from where I'm from trouble was everywhere. I enlisted in the US Army at the age of 21. Then, the National Guard 4 years later. I got to travel the world, but wanted to settle somewhere I could put my feet in the sand when I wanted to. I moved to Florida, got my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, and started a family. I currently work for a Graphic Design Company but I continue to paint on my spare time.

    Onajide Shabaka
    Visual Artist; Writer
My interest in art began in high school with a photography course that eventually allowed me creative license to photograph what I wanted. That interest continued through various post-secondary institutions, including: Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA., and California College of the Arts (CCA), Oakland, CA, culminating in a MFA awarded from Vermont College of the Fine Arts (Montpelier, VT), an institution focused on self-designed, and multidisciplinary courses of study. Over the past fifteen years my practice has included art writing and independent curatorial work, both of which are important aspects of my art practice and allow me to take advantage of many years of formal and informal study and research. • Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra
    Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra
The Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra is a unique South Florida orchestra of professional, conservatory and gifted secondary school students, rehearsing and performing side-by-side. As role models, the professionals demonstrate high quality musical performance and model professional behavioral standards for students. The orchestra program includes a wide variety of challenging repertoire, including world premieres of new music. An annual concerto competition provides high school students as well as university- and conservatory-level musicians, of any instrument, the opportunity to perform with the orchestra. These concerts, in addition to others presenting respected guest artists, also afford orchestra members a chance to develop skills and insights necessary for accompanying soloists. The orchestra strives to embrace members of the audience who may have little occasion to interact with the classics. Speaking from the podium during pre-concert lectures followed by a question/answer period, and inviting the audience to interact with musicians following performances, are practices which make the classics more understandable and thus approachable. At Music for Munchkins concerts the children are encouraged to ask questions and to interact with the conductor even during performances. Public master classes, conducted by guest artists, are offered to South Florida student musicians and observers. Ars Flores joins with humanitarian organizations in collaborative performances which raise funds for charitable purposes. Ars Flores welcomes collaboration with other musical and nonmusical entities, relishing the opportunity to nurture an appreciation and enjoyment of a variety of musical genres in young musicians and audiences alike.
