Katherine Agurcia began her formal photographic education in Tegucigalpa, Honduras (where she was born), at a Kodak-sponsored certificate program at the Alliance Française. Under the tutelage of the famed Honduran photographer Juan Pablo Martell, she learned about the technical aspects of the camera, how to photograph with a classic aesthetic, and the ins-and-outs of printing in black-and-white in a darkroom.

This eventually led her to study for an MFA in Photography at SCAD, in Savannah, GA, where she focused on portrait and studio photography. After graduate school, she taught at the Art Institute of Charleston, SC, and also at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.

To pursue her dream of working in commercial portraiture, she moved to Washington, DC, where she found new and exciting opportunities in photography, an experience which culminated in the opportunity to photograph a sitting President in the Oval Office.

After this, an opportunity arose to move the Hawaii to continue evolving in her photography, so she moved to Maui, where she worked for a portrait company offering high-end portrait photography to island visitors for family photos, weddings, family reunions, and other special occasions. She also taught private photography lessons, from beginners to advanced students.

Currently, she lives in Hollywood, FL, where she she has taught students at the University of Miami, has continued to grow her commercial business, and has expanded on her personal work.
