Taiko Camp is an energetic environment with a sense of community and a positive attitude towards diversity and creativity. Instructors for the camp are performing members of Fushu Daiko.
– 3-hour camp days: Monday through Friday:
– Camp fees include a T-shirt and bachi (drum sticks).
– Camp takes place in the cafetorium. We use the stage for playing taiko and other areas for break-time, snacking, & discussion.
– Please wear comfortable loose or stretchy workout clothes and sneakers.
– No jewelry may be worn during taiko practice.
We begin with warm ups and exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles used for taiko drumming. Students learn basics of taiko including kata (form), kuchishoga (language of taiko sounds), rhythm, spirit (energy, positive attitude, teamwork, self-discipline), and self-expression.
Teachers teach in English with some Japanese vocabulary commonly used in taiko practice.
The camp concludes on Friday with an afternoon recital (5pm) and celebration where students share their skills and energy – and family and friends can share in the sounds of a new generation of taiko!
Registration Forms:
– Will be emailed to you upon payment receipt:
– Must be filled out, signed and returned before the start of camp.
Cancellation Policy: Camp fees are refundable (minus a $35 non-refundable administrative charge) until the close of business on the Monday before camp begins.
