Visiting instructor David Wolske teaches how to create abstract imagery from wood type using experimental letterpress techniques.
Visiting Instructor: David Wolske
Isotype printing is a new letterpress method for creating abstract “imagery” from wood type. Letterforms are made of horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and curved lines. By combining a mask with customized packing on Vandercook-style cylinder proofing presses, artists can safely isolate these letterform components. The unique subtractive results of this experimental technique expand movable type’s creative possibilities in exciting ways.
