This workshop covers the roots and meaning of dances in the Haitian culture and teaches the dances to participants.
Some of the dances included in this inspiring journey into culture and movement are the opening prayer (Yanvalou), dance of harvest, (Mayi/Djouba) celebration dances (Kongo/Siren Song), the warrior dance (Nago), the revolutionary dance (Petro), the dance depicting life and death (Banda) and the dance of thanksgiving. After taking the workshop, participants who desire can join the dancers of Tradisyon Lakou Lakay for a presentation in the lobby of our performance festival on April 4th.
