During the February Artwalk in Fort Lauderdale, Girls’ Club hosts an Artist Talk with Leila Leder Kremer and Juana Meneses, founders of Portable Editions, discussing their upcoming residency, projects and workshops.
In conjunction with Girls’ Club current exhibition Self-Prolfieration, South Florida artists and collaborators Leila Leder Kremer and Juana Meneses of Portable Editions will set up shop at Girls’ Club as a Printer in Residence for the month of March 2016, creating new works, inviting guest artist to collaborate and leading workshops.
Printing processes and artist books have been a staple of the growing artists’ oeuvre for generations. During Portable Edition’s residency, artists are encouraged to explore the possibilities of the medium within the context of their own practice.
Using their unique Risograph printer, Portable Editions will be offering workshops for artists as part of their Portable Editions: LAB, to explore this unique printing process and discuss concepts surrounding small batch printing editions and artist books. Workshops are open to students, artists and the general public. A small materials fee applies to each.
Also at Girls’ Club during February Artwalk:
Third Avenue Annual Artwalk – Every February for over 20 years, the artists of the Third Avenue Art District open their studios and welcome the public to their creative spaces. Adjacent to Girls’ Club is the studio of artist/collector Francie Bishop Good who will be presenting new mixed media work along with guest artist David Rohn. An ongoing portrait performance will take place through out the evening, with Rohn emobdying the profilc artist/collector. Map and venue at thirdavenueartdistrict.com.
Self-Proliferation – An exhibition of works by more than thirty artists from the collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz currently on view at Girls’ Club. Selected by New York-based independent curator Micaela Giovannotti, works in the exhibition express the natural female propensity for replication and fecundity. The majority of works are created as multiples – artist books, prints, photographs, videos. An international, cross-generational selection of artists reflect upon the nuances of the female “self” as constructed or inspired by cinema and pop culture, printed media and fashion, feminist notions, racial politics, cultural traditions and personal concerns.
