South Side Cultural Arts Center
South Side School was built in 1922 as one of the first elementary schools in Broward County and served the community until 1990. In 2004 the nonprofit organization 'Friends of South Side' was created to give a voice to those in the Fort Lauderdale community dedicated to restore this historic site and transform it into a Cultural Arts Center.
Presently the entire 2nd floor of the building is being utilized by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Fort Lauderdale. They are also responsible for the operations of the 1st floor of the building, including scheduling programming and handing rental space reservations.
The Friends of South Side continues to work with the City of Fort Lauderdale to ensure the success of South Side Cultural Arts Center as a sustainable resource for all to enjoy.
Located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, this small gem has been restored to a condition compatible to its original design and size to serve the cultural and educational demands, desires and aspirations of the community and its leaders. In a setting adjacent to seven acres of park land, with a thriving boundless playground for children of all abilities, this facility affords an opportunity for children and adults of all ages to teach, learn and share ideas, skills and dreams about the arts. Programs and opportunities will to be limited only by the imagination of those crossing its threshold.
With a touch of individuality and a splash of creativity, South Side Cultural Arts Center is here to serve you!
