“Celestina” by Teatro El Publico

FUNDarte (Miami, USA), in collaboration with Teatro El Público (Havana, Cuba), revisits the XV-century Spanish play “La Celestina” seeking a contemporary portrayal of our urgencies and desires in the essence of classical theater. Rojas’s text is a mirror of a Spain where the repressive mores of the age stifle the pure love of youth. Yet, the characters of this masterwork endure in their timeless celebration of a jouissance that continues to provoke contemporary audiences. In the struggle between desire and flesh, morality and money, reality and sorcery, this fable of the old matchmaker reminds us that these forces remain in conflict and that we continue to engage in the same battles, even in the age of virtual reality.

Celestina includes scenes of nudity and sexual content. As a result, it is only suitable for individuals 21 years of age or older.
