Byproducts, Works by local artist Isabel Gouveia

IS Projects presents a new body of work by Isabel Gouveia, Byproducts. Isabel Gouveia is a South Florida based artist who uses non-traditional materials to create prints that respond to the effects of accelerated entropy. Featuring a series of monotypes, the exhibition is focused on the changing landscape, environmental awareness and the more recent effects of globalization. Connected to a world of mass production, abundant waste and environmental overload, this body of work – made with the remains of containers, plastic bands, binders, and paper boxes – become the artist’s own version of an assembly line. While the packaging used was mass generated and quickly cast off, the act of collection and reuse in a series of monotypes, extends their function, leaving a memory of the mysterious moment of holding.

Isabel Gouveia exhibits her work internationally and was a recent recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship (2017).  Byproducts’ opening reception is March 31, 2018 6pm to 11pm and will be on display from March 6, 2018 to April 28, 2018. Public Programming includes an Artist Talk on Saturday, March 31 at 6pm during FAT Village’s Artwalk and a workshop highlighting the Gouveia’s process in April.
