Many African Americans helped blaze the trails that developed into Broward County. Some obtained wealth, such as John H. Hill, Dr. Von D. Mizell, and Silvia Alridge. Many did not, but their hard work contributed to the welfare and economy of the county by clearing the land, building railroads, harvesting crops, cooking meals, maintaining services at hotels and educating children for the next level of endeavors.
