Black History Month Exhibit

Many African Americans helped blaze the trails that developed into Broward County. Some obtained wealth, such as John H. Hill, Dr. Von D. Mizell, and Silvia Alridge. Many did not, but their hard work contributed to the welfare and economy of the county by clearing the land, building railroads, harvesting crops, cooking meals, maintaining services at hotels and educating children for the next level of endeavors. Throughout the years, the Old Dillard Museum has seen how proud the African American community has been of its role in the area, regardless of the roadblocks that they encountered.
As the county celebrates its 100th anniversary, the Old Dillard Museum will focus on the black community’s people, places and events that continue to be a part of this area’s rich and vibrant history. Our activities will combine the resources of the community’s historical advocates and the artistic practitioners to develop entertaining and exciting experiences for Broward Country’s African American neighborhoods.
