A concert about the role of music in the Holocaust with live survivor stories in partnership with the Holocaust Documentation and Resource Center of Dania Beach.
Season 11: Encounters with Strangers is a series of concerts inspired by the power of the stranger. Each program tells a story of the role of the stranger to change a life, for the better or for the the worse. Stay after each performance to discuss the topics raised in the concert in a round table discussion.
Program 4: Only the Butterflies are Free tells the story of the Holocaust through live survivor stories with music written or performed in the camps, including Brundibar, Moor Soldaten, Buchenwald, works by Chopin and Wallfisch, whose grandmother was a musician at Auschwitz, and Plegaria, the tango of death. Includes a new work by award winning film composer Ros Gilman.
