IGNITE FAQs

What is IGNITE?

IGNITE Broward offers five days (and nights) of free immersive art experiences. The festival takes place at two locations, with daytime and evening options to attend. Keep reading for more info!

What’s the difference between the Fort Lauderdale and Dania locations?

The Dania location is all inside and is open daily with free reserved timeslots to limit capacity (10am-8pm; with extended viewing until 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights). The downtown Fort Lauderdale location is all outside and open for viewing only after the sun has set (6-10pm; and until 11pm on Friday and Saturday). Each location features three art experiences by three different artists.

Where in Fort Lauderdale will the art be?

There are two installations in downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Esplanade Park. One is an immersive experience inside the park’s gazebo; the other is located among the trees on the west side of the park (just below the Broward Center for the Performing Arts). The third location is across the street from the park and with a display in the outdoor atrium of Museum of Discovery & Science (MODS). See more info about the art and artists in Fort Lauderdale.

Where in Dania will the art be?

The three installations in Dania Beach will all be inside MAD Arts Studio on the first floor. Additionally on view in this same location is the XHBTN: The Art + Grafik Design of David Carson exhibition which is also free to view for IGNITE visitors. See more info about the art and artists in Dania Beach.

Do I need to register and how much does it cost?

You do not need to register, but if you are planning to go to the Dania Beach location, we are asking you to reserve your timed admission timeslot in advance of your visit to help us maintain social distancing. You can do that with one click here. And it’s all free! The events are too.

Are there special events I can attend?

There are several!

  • Kickoff: IGNITE’s kickoff event takes place in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, starting around 5:30PM in the front of the Museum of Discovery & Science, with Broward County Mayor Michael Udine activating the art at 6PM. RSVPs are not required but to make sure the food trucks and beer vendor have plenty of supplies (available for purchase).
  • Artists Meet & Greet: On Friday, January 28, from 6-8pm you can meet the artists and see the art at this one-night-only reception at MAD Arts in Dania.
  • Art + Tech Talk: On Friday, January 28, from 4-5pm, IGNITE artist Susan Narduli will speak about her work at FAU’s MetroLab on Las Olas Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale. Note: This talk is currently waitlist only.

All IGNITE events are free and open to the public. Also, don’t forget that Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week is also running concurrently so there are even more events to explore in the area here.

Do I need to wear a mask? What are the COVID-19 protocols?

Masks are welcome and encouraged. IGNITE’s indoor installations in Dania Beach are spread out over 10,000 square-feet with timed entries so you can maintain social distancing. There is also ample space for visitors to enjoy our outdoor activations at the Fort Lauderdale location without crowding. If you forget your mask, we will have some available along with hand sanitizer.

What if it’s raining?

IGNITE Broward is rain or shine! Almost all the installations at the Fort Lauderdale location are covered, and the Dania location is all indoors.

Can I bring my kids?

Absolutely! All of the art on view during IGNITE Broward will be an exciting experience for all ages and families.

Can I take pictures?

Yes! We want you to partake in the experience and also capture it in pics and videos. Make sure to tag @BrowardArts so we can share your photos with our audiences.

Dania Beach:

Ignite Broward
Visitors to IGNITE Broward will experience an immersive experiences like this at both locations.

Who is putting on IGNITE Broward?

Presented by Broward Cultural Division, IGNITE Broward is produced by the creative solutions firm MAD.  Additional support comes from Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, Visit Lauderdale, Museum of Discovery & Science and the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Is the art ADA accessible? I want to make sure all my friends can come.

Yes of course! All or mostly all installations will be accessible for everyone to attend.

How long should I plan to spend at IGNITE?

Your visit can be as brief or as long as you want. We recommend allowing yourself at least 30 minutes to experience the art at each of the two locations.

Is it open later on weekends?

Yes! Both locations are open later on Friday and Saturday nights. Dania will be open until 10PM and Fort Lauderdale will be open until 11PM.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are allowed outside at the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. However, one of the installations will activate the gazebo in Esplanade Park and due to the limited space, this installation will have a limit on attendees allowed to enter at one time, so we’d prefer if you bring a friend who can wait with your pet outside. Only service animals are allowed at the indoor location in Dania Beach.

What should I wear?

Whatever you’re comfortable in! All attire welcome. One of the Dania installations has a mirrored ceiling and floor so we will likely ask attendees wearing heels or boots to place a cover on their shoes before entering (but we’ll have plenty for you).
