Dade County Student Awareness Day

Dade County Student Awareness Day

Presented by Holocaust Documentation and Education Center at Florida International University Roz & Cal Kovens Conference Center

The Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, Inc. since its inception in 1980, has to date through our Student Awareness Day Programs, sensitized hundreds of thousands of 9 – 12 grade High School students from, public, private and parochial schools in Miami – Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe Counties to the evils of hatred, prejudice and bullying,

These days feature a unique opportunity for our multicultural, ethnically diverse student population to come face to face with a Holocaust Survivor for the first time. Throughout the day students are seated at round tables with a Holocaust Survivor and are tremendously impacted by this educational life changing experience. As a result, students begin to understand one very important lesson from the Holocaust Survivors, and that is to respect one another regardless of their differences and that every life is worthy.

By relating to the tragic, personal stories of Holocaust Survivors, students begin to understand that no one is immune to the evil and discrimination bestowed upon them by others. Through Student Awareness Days, students learn to take a stand and become more vigilant and aware. They are taught the importance of standing up, speaking out, and making a difference. Above all, our goal is for all students to realize that targeting one group targets us all.
