Studio 18 Art Complex and Andrea Huffman present ‘Pocket Stories’, a collaborative mending project, sharing stories of personal histories and milestones. This collaborative interactive workshop begins at 11 AM on Saturday, October 1st.
In this collaborative, interactive workshop, participants will create small “pockets” from repurposed personal or domestic textiles, embellishing with decorative stitching, buttons or other found objects. Participants will have the option to pass their "pockets" from one participant to another adding to each other’s work, so that each pocket will be the work of many hands.
Throughout the activity, participants will take turns sharing stories related to “pockets” (i.e.- purses, wallets, heirlooms, personal histories, what we carry, symbols of independence, etc.). At the end of the workshop, each person will have a personal pocket as a keepsake of the workshop.
All materials will be provided, but participants may also bring scraps or discarded or distressed textiles, such as old torn jeans, doilies, table linens, cotton blouses, shirts or dress scraps, old aprons, etc. (No knits such as t-shirts or stretchy fabrics, please.)
Registration is suggested as workshops fill up quickly and seating is limited to 20 participants. All children must be supervised.
