The Old Dillard Foundation 2022 Juneteenth Celebration

The Old Dillard Foundation 2022 Juneteenth Celebration

Presented by OLD DILLARD FOUNDATION, INC and Old Dillard Museum at Old Dillard Museum

Juneteenth honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The name “Juneteenth” is a blend of two words: “June” and “nineteenth.” It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. It's believed to be the oldest African-American holiday, with annual celebrations on June 19th in different parts of the country dating back to 1866. In 2021, it was declared a National Holiday.

On Saturday, June 18, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, the Old Dillard Foundation, in collaboration with the Old Dillard Museum, will celebrate the National Holiday Juneteenth. This event is sponsored by the Broward County Cultural Division, the Florida Marlins, and the School Board of Broward County. It is free and open to the public. There will be events for the entire family. Events and activities include a Kids Zone, Food Trucks, and vendors. The entertainment includes the Dillard High School Marching Band, jazz, spoken word, gospel, and steel drums. Everyone is invited!
