This is a 5 part, all-inclusive introduction to making Artist Books which features relief and letterpress printing and pamphlet stitch binding. Participants will learn how to set lead type and print with a Vandercook proofing press while creating a collaborative book project. Students will have the option to try their hand at carving a linoleum block and printing it on the Vandercook Press. The final session will be used to sew the books together.

This is the perfect workshop for artists looking to try their hand at book arts, incorporate text into their work, or even for writers looking to get a little inky. All participants will leave with copies of the collaborative book and a working knowledge of letterpress printing from handset type.

This workshop is limited to 4 participants so that everyone will receive specific and personal instructions and assistance. This class is designed not only to produce an edition but to also instill the foundation of letterpress knowledge so that all participants can do this process on their own later on. All necessary materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to prepare some text, ideally their own writing, prior to the workshop (no more than 100 words). 

This class will certify participants to use our Vandercook presses and handset type collection during studio hours.
