15th Annual Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council Reading Festival

Presented by Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council at Island SPACE Caribbean Museum

Depending on the status of the pandemic, The Council's 2022 plan is to make this a two-day event.

On Saturday February 5, 2022, the Council will present a fund-raising event titled " Dinner and Poetry with renowned Poet Kei Miller at the Island Space Caribbean Museum located in the Broward Mall and on Sunday February 6, 2022, will be a free community event at the Vizcaya Park in Miramar Florida.

Mr. Miller is a graduate of University of the West Indies and the Manchester Metropolitan University in England where he received his Master of Arts degree in Creative Writing.

His books include Fear of Stones and other stories (2006), - Kingdom of Empty Bellies (2006) two poetry collections, There Is An Anger That Moves (2007). The Same Earth, published in 2008.

His most recent books are the novel, The Last Warner Woman (2010), a further poetry collection, A Light Song of Light (2010), shortlisted for the 2010 John Llewellyn-Rhys Memorial Prize and the collection The Cartographer Tries to Map A Way to Zion.

In this new collection Miller dramatizes what happens when one system of knowledge, one method of understanding place and territory, comes up against another.

Kei Miller has been a visiting writer at York University, Canada; the Department of Library Services in the British Virgin Islands; Vera Rubin Fellow at Yaddo; and International Writing Fellow at the University of Iowa.

He is also the editor of New Caribbean Poetry: An Anthology (2007), and currently lectures at the University of Miami, Florida.

The free community event on Sunday February 6,2022 will include ring games, folk songs, poetry reading, storytelling, interactive presentations of quadrille and maypole dancing in addition to performances from local poets and several other groups from the diaspora.
