Handel's Messiah presented by South Florida Symphony Orchestra

Handel's Messiah presented by South Florida Symphony Orchestra

Presented by South Florida Symphony Orchestra at Parker Playhouse

HALLELUJAH! For the very first time, Sebrina Maria Alfonso conducts the South Florida Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s glorious holiday tradition, Messiah. Kick off the holiday season as dazzling vocal soloists Neil Nelson, bass baritone; Martin Nusspaumer, tenor; Brittany Graham, soprano; Rehanna Thelwell, mezzo-soprano along with the 100-member South Florida Symphony Chorus, join the full orchestra to perform Part I (Christmas portion), culminating in the iconic “Hallelujah” Chorus.

The evening will open with an extraordinary “Behind the Music” story incorporating a reenactment of the dramatic struggle faced by composer George Fredric Handel as he toiled to complete this holiday masterpiece. Audiences will be enchanted by regally costumed actors narrating meaningful work passages that truly elevate the concert-going experience.

“A musical rite of the holiday season, the Baroque-era oratorio still awes listeners 250 years after the composer’s death” — Smithsonian Magazine

While it is popularly viewed as a Christmas work (which actually reflects on the Christian Lent and Easter stories), Messiah’s musical narrative brilliance transcends belief systems. The holiday favorite is paired with Bach’s intricate Triple Concerto for harpsichord, flute, violin and string orchestra. This is sure to be the premier musical experience for the whole family this holiday season.
