International travel photographer Paul McDermott, with the support of the Broward County Cultural Division and Artserve, will be showcasing his latest project of “Natural Areas of Broward” in the Bienes Gallery at 1350 E Sunrise Blvd. The opening reception is Sept 9, 2021 from 6 - 9 pm. 

The exhibit features images of Broward’s natural landscape captured from the air,  on land, and underwater. When the Covid 19 pandemic began, Paul (like many) was forced to stay home and travel ceased. He took the opportunity to explore the amazing natural spaces in his own backyard. He curated this show to exhibit the natural areas and landscapes of Broward County that are often overlooked and underappreciated although they are critical in maintaining a balanced ecosystem and offer benefits to both locals and visitors alike. 

As a travel photographer, Paul was deliberate to experience his home as if it were a destination. With a new appreciation of what Broward County has to offer, he hopes to inspire others to deepen their own love and appreciation for nature and what it provides to our community. From Paul’s perspective, “[w]e care for what we appreciate. When we appreciate nature, we invest our attention in maintaining it.”
