Girls' Club presents a double feature film screening of works from the collection by multi-disciplinary artists Jeanne Jaffe and Jen Clay.
View the premiere of Jeanne Jaffe's Alice in Dystopia, a stop motion animation short film based on Lewis Carroll's 1865 classic children's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In Jaffe's dystopian tale, Alice and The Rabbit travel through the wrong rabbit hole and find themselves in dark and destructive future. Through a mix of marionettes, live action, shadow puppets and archival footage, Alice searches for meaning while encountering a version of the smoking Caterpillar, the author Lewis Carroll, an extinct Dodo bird, and others.
Jen Clay's 2017 film Episode combines performative sculpture, multiples types of animation and live action footage to illustrate a first person view of a dissociative episode for the viewer. Clay's multi-media work often involve original textiles and animations for performance, video and installations that take inspiration from genres of horror and science fiction movies and television shows, author H.P. Lovecraft stories of cosmic madness, and actual accounts of hallucinations and supernatural sightings.
Screening of the films will be followed by an artist talk.
Event is free and open to the public.
The film screening is indoors, all attendees must bring and wear a face mask while indoors.
