One Night Two Premieres features the music of Margaret Bonds and South Florida Composer and Conductor, Joseph Jones.
Music of The Unsung America: One Night Two Premieres" will take place at the Historic St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Miami, Florida on Saturday, April 24th at 7:00pm. The program features Margaret Bonds’ “Simon Bore the Cross” with libretto by Langston Hughes, a cantata that follows Simon as he journeys with Jesus to the crucifixion. Also premiering, South Florida composer and conductor, Joseph Jones’, Symphony for String Orchestra No. 2 Op 47. Jones will conduct both pieces.
The program will feature the New Canon Chamber Collective string orchestra and chamber choir with some of the best and brightest performing artists in South Florida. The performance will culminate in an audience talk-back with conductor-composer, Joseph Jones, discussing his life, music, and journey in the arts. Advance tickets for in person performance are $10 and can be purchased on Eventbrite. Tickets at the door are $15. The concert will also be presented virtually via Music of the Unsung America’s Facebook page.
