Opening reception for two contemporary art exhibitions on view through May 16
Join us for the opening reception for our two new contemporary exhibitions – the collaborative show Fractured Landscapes with Cara Despain and Emanuel Tovar, and Cloning the ghost by Javier Barrios. The opening reception is from 5-7 p.m. on March 6 and will feature a live performance.
Supported by a grant from Funding Arts Broward, Fractured Landscapes features site-specific installations by Utah/Miami-based artists Despain and Guadalajara-based Tovar. Each artist incorporates a variety of actions, including fire, video, and photography, that utilize such materials as rock, carbon, sand, and wood to articulate the fragile beauty of their natural environments.
Mexico City-based artist Javier Barrios’s exhibition Cloning the ghost is inspired by Susan Orlean’s classic non-fiction book The Orchid Thief (1998). Barrios places himself as one of the characters in the book, an orchid enthusiast, collector, and traveler, searching for the ghost orchid, a rare orchid species that only grows domestically in the Fakahatchee Strand near Naples.
Registration is required for the reception due to Covid-19 attendance restrictions. To register, visit artandculturecenter.org or call 954-921-3274. Admission is $4 for youth, $7 for adults, and free for members.
