The Kampong Lab: A Mark Dion Project

The Kampong Lab: A Mark Dion Project

Presented by Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

Within these beautiful grounds stands the former home and botany laboratory of Dr. David Fairchild which houses a permanent installation by artist Mark Dion. The installation is derived from the botanist's life and work.

Fairchild was a plant explorer with the USDA in the early 1900s, credited with more than 60,000 introductions of exotic plants and varieties of crops into the United States, forever changing the American diet. He also established the Office of Seed and Plant Introduction, a branch of the United States Department of Agriculture.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Accumulate, Classify, Preserve, Display: Roberto Obregón Archive from the Carolina and Fernando Eseverri Collection—which extrapolates years of Obregon’s obsession with one particular flora, the rose—this event will explore Dion’s work and draw parallels between his practice and that of artist Roberto Obregón.
