Emerging Art From War-Torn Syria: War & Hope

Through this traveling group exhibition, curated by artist Tony Khawam and presented by Artserve showcasing this theme exhibition with a focus on socio-cultural issues such as social disruption, displacement, immigration and the American culture. Opening reception Sept 3-5 with artist talk and live music. Also during Sept, we will present series of lectures on Zoom, Facebook live stream to engage the community and build relationship with the immigrants and build bridges through the arts for better cultural understanding.
Planned events during Sept 2020:
– Syrian art exhibition (Sept 1-30) reception Sept 3, 4 & 5 (reception tours)
Zoom and Facebook Live stream and Instagram during Sept.
– Lecture (Artist/Curator Tony Khawam): Introduction of the exhibition schedule, Syrian American history in the U.S. and Syrian arts & culture contributions to the U.S. (Tuesday Sept 1 from 6:30-7:30pm)
– Middle Eastern Melodies: Two performers, Singer/Poet George Kouz with and Organist Tony Tahan, playing and singing classical Aleppian and Andalusian music. (Saturday Sept 5 from 6:30-7:30pm)
– Lecture (Film director, Abe Kasbo): Documentary Film titled “The Arab American Experience” to engage the community in building cultural understanding and raise awareness about the Syrian immigrants contribution to the U.S.  (Tuesday 9/8 from 6:30-8pm)
– Lecture (Dr. Hadi Yaziji) Syrian culture and the Syrian American community in South Florida and the Syrian American doctors in the U.S. with an update on his practice on Covid-19 testing in Miami: (Thursday Sept 10 from 6:30-7:30)
– Lecture (TED talk & Food blogger Tony Tahhan: Syrian Food Q & A with slides presentation showcasing the power of food to bring community together and engage them in a dialogue to build relationship and cultural understanding. (Thursday 8/17 from 6:30-7:30pm)
