The Museum of Discovery and Science is now participating in the Museums for All program. The program supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits by offering exhibit admission of $2 per person, up to four people, when they present a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and ID. This signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), encourages people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. The Museum program has been funded by a generous $50,000 matching grant from the Harry T. Mangurian Foundation which was matched by other donors at the Museum’s 2018 gala.
Joseph P. Cox, President and CEO, said “Museums for All is part of our Opening Doors initiative designed to increase the Museum’s accessibility efforts. We are very grateful to the Harry T. Mangurian Foundation for providing the matching grant that enabled us to double their funds in one evening.”
Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities. More than 250 institutions participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more. Participating museums are located nationwide, representing more than 40 states.
