FIU Music Festival: 2 Pianos & Voices of Beeth...

Presented by Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center at Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center Concert Hall

Renowned Piano Duo Chipak & Kushnir will perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony as transcribed for 2 pianos by Franz Liszt with local and national singers performing Beethoven’s most famous ‘Ode to Joy.’ The rest of the program will include work inspired by Beethoven including a world premiere of Robert Chumbley’s “Whisper and Cries,” based on Beethoven’s ongoing descent into deafness.

About Piano Duo: Olha Chipak &  Kushnir

The duo first met in 1998 while studying at the L’viv Music Academy in Ukraine, they could not have imagined where their musical partnership would take them. What they certainly knew, however, was that from that point on they would not only pursue a career as solo artists but also devote themselves to an equal degree to performing chamber music. They soon won their first international competition together (“Roma 98”). In 2003, the duo won the Dranoff International 2 Piano Competition. Today, Chipak & Kushnir perform as a duo in concert halls across Europe. While balancing their growing family they teach piano duo performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, Germany with Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl.
