Express Culture: Roots and Revolutions

Presented by BaCA - Bailey Contemporary Arts at Bailey Contemporary Arts (BaCA)

"Express Culture" is an event that celebrates Haiti's rich heritage and its profound influence on global culture. It's a dynamic fusion of art, music, fashion, and cultural expression that invites attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of Haitian history and creativity. The event features artist-in-residence Louiveste La Croix, a Haitian mixed media artist, whose "Roots and Revolution" pieces intricately weave together Haiti's historical narratives to bring compelling connections. Through his multimedia art technique and thought-provoking imagery, guests are transported on a visual journey that illuminates the resilience, ingenuity, and revolutionary spirit of the Haitian people.

Complementing the art exhibition is a fashion show collaboration with Joshua Buron (Mo), where traditional Haitian attire meets modern denim jeans sensibilities. Mo's denim installation and fashion innovation creations serve as a testament to Haiti's cultural evolution, showcasing how heritage and innovation intersect to shape the fabric of Haitian identity.

Throughout the evening, guests are invited to embark on a multi-faceted exploration of Haitian culture. In the second part titled "Revelry Night," attendees will delve deeper into the cultural tapestry with an open mic session hosted by Louiveste La Croix. This segment promises an intimate showcase of talent from within the Haitian community and beyond, complemented by the soulful melodies of Inez Barlatier and her family band. As the evening unfolds, guests will also have the opportunity to savor delectable Haitian appetizers, tantalizing their taste buds with the flavors of Haiti's culinary delights.

As guests navigate through the event, they are not merely spectators but active participants in a cultural odyssey that seeks to inspire, educate, and unite. By honoring Haiti's past struggles and triumphs, "Express Culture: Roots and Revolution" sheds light on the resilience and creativity of the Haitian people, fostering a deeper appreciation for their contributions to global culture.
