Broward County’s Public Art & Design program is inviting qualified individuals to serve on artist selection panels. The County's Public Art & Design program was established in 1976 and commissions unique artworks for County buildings and facilities. The Artist Selection Panel plays a key role in the public art selection process.
An Artist Selection Panel is established for each public art project.The Panel recommends artists and the acquisition of artwork. Panels are comprised of at least five voting members, including arts professionals, a community representative, and one representative from the County agency at which the project will be located.
Individuals residing in Broward County with a strong interest or background in the visual arts are encouraged to apply. Panelists serve on a voluntary basis and do not receive compensation for their time or travel expenses. Applications are reviewed by Division staff and then recommended for approval by the Broward Cultural Council.
Qualifications:
Arts professionals with a demonstrated background/history in their area of focus/specialty such as artists, arts administrators, artists, architects, designers, collectors, and other persons with a strong knowledge and interest in contemporary visual arts. It’s expected that panel members will be knowledgeable about the latest trends and happenings in the visual arts locally, nationally, and internationally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
o Review artist’s qualifications including resumes, letter of interest, images of past work
o Attend up to three, 3-hour meetings per public art project. Meetings take place during regular business hours of 8:30AM and 5PM
o Discuss qualifications of artists, reach consensus with fellow Panelmembers, and recommend artists based on the criteria, including excellence of past work.
