Deciding which grant to pursue depends on the nature of your artistic practice, goals, and current needs. If you are an established artist seeking to push the boundaries of your work and embark on a groundbreaking project, the Innovation Grant may be the perfect fit. However, if you are an emerging artist with a body of original artworks that would benefit from financial support to further develop your artistic skills, expand your network, or advance your career in other ways, the Artist Support Grant could be the ideal opportunity.

Innovation Grants: Embracing the Power of Experimentation

The $10,000 Innovation Grants, which are presented in partnership with the Community Foundation of Broward are designed for professional and established artists who wish to embark on innovative or experimental projects. These grants provide artists with unique opportunities to explore uncharted territories, challenge conventional norms, and push the boundaries of their artistic practices. Innovation Grants are highly competitive, requiring artists to present a project that demonstrates originality, risk-taking, and potential for significant impact. Each selected artist is required to produce an event that is free and accessible to the Broward County public.

The deadline to apply for the next cycle is Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Upcoming workshops are scheduled for:

• Tuesday, June 20 – Artist Innovation / Application Workshop (virtual)

• Wednesday, June 28 – Artist Innovation / Application Workshop (virtual)

• Tuesday, July 11 – Artist Innovation / Application Workshop (virtual)

Artist Support Grants: Nurturing Artistic Development

The Artist Support Grants, offering up to $3,000, are aimed at assisting artists in various stages of their careers. Unlike the Innovation Grants, the Artist Support Grants do not require an innovative or experimental project proposal. Instead, they focus on supporting artists’ ongoing practice, professional development, and career advancement. These grants provide direct funds to individual artists of all disciplines for projects that include a public event.

The deadline for apply is Friday, August 4, 2023. Learn more by attending an upcoming workshop:

The Application Process and Selection Criteria

Innovation Grants and Artist Support Grants both follow the same application process. Artists are required to submit detailed project proposals, budgets, work samples, biographies, and other supporting materials. Applications are reviewed by a panel of experts in the field who assess the artistic merit, feasibility, and impact of the proposed projects. The selection process is highly competitive and only the most compelling proposals receive funding.

The Broward Cultural Division’s grants for artists play a vital role in nurturing creativity, encouraging innovation, and supporting the professional growth of artists in Broward County. The Innovation Grants provide a platform for established artists to explore new frontiers, while the Artist Support Grants offer crucial assistance for artists seeking to develop their skills and advance their careers. Whether artists aspire to create groundbreaking works or enhance their artistic journey, these grants serve as powerful tools to bring their visions to life and contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of Broward County.

Not based in Broward County? We have good news – this fall we’re hoping to roll out an all-new grant program for five regional artists (professional artists working in Dade or Palm Beach County) to present work in Broward County. Stay tuned for more information!

Still uncertain which grant category you’re eligible for? We invite you to attend one of the free virtual application workshops listed above and/or you may contact Grant Administrator Erica Mohan at 954-357-7458 or emohan@broward.org.
