What does it mean to be from Davie?

This is the question Miami muralist Luis Valle is pondering.

With murals gracing much of downtown Miami, Valle is no stranger to public art.

As part of Broward County’s VisualEYES Project, Valle was commissioned to create a 1,000-sq. ft. mural on the side of the Robert H. Bamford Sports Complex on Pine Island Rd.

He will go before a special City Commission meeting in September where one of two potential designs will be chosen.

The Nicaraguan-born artist, known for his large-scale thematic murals and bold iconographic images will use his skills and vision to create a visual depiction of the Town and its proud equestrian heritage.

Davie, with its rural atmosphere, western-style areas and equestrian lifestyle, are themes Valle will incorporate into his design.

The Town is also home to the Miami Dolphins who practice daily at Nova Southeastern University.

“I hope to convey the spirit and heritage of the Town of Davie,” says Valle.  “Davie is a unique community in Broward County and that’s what I’m trying to capture through my art.”

“My idea is to incorporate images of horses in motion to symbolize the equestrian tradition and the progress the Town of Davie has made over the years,” says Valle.

“The residents are proud of their community and proud of their culture and traditions,” he says.
