Broward County Transit bus riders passing through the Northeast Transit Center hub in Pompano Beach will soon be treated to an original piece of artwork by local artists Addonis Parker and Carla Rowe.

The two, from Miami and Tamarac, respectively, are collaborating on a 690-square-foot mural on the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach as part of the VisualEYES project to celebrate Broward County’s 100th anniversary.

The $5.3 million Northeast Transit Center, which opened in November 2012, is located on 3.5 acres at 304 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. It includes six bus bays, a passenger drop-off area, a taxi stand and a continuous canopy.

Parker and Rowe will paint the mural on the circular roof of the 2,000-square-foot building, where passengers can purchase tickets or get information.

Nearly 2,000 passengers pass through the facility every weekday, and the mural, which will be easily visible at the top of the building, will help beautify not only the facility but the neighborhood as well.

The VisualEYES project, a series of new public art works, will ultimately include 10 murals around Broward County, one in each of the nine County Commission Districts and an additional one at Port Everglades.
