At the age of 7 Nick Aquilino showed his singing chops with the pop hit song “I’ve Gotta Be Me.”

Aquilino, 17, of Boca Raton, will perform in the style of the great American crooners when he appears in “WE,” Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. at the Broward Theatre for the Performing Arts. He will sing a mashup of the Frank Sinatra hits “Come Fly with Me” and “Fly Me to the Moon.” The songs evoke the 1950s and 60s in producer-director Neil Goldberg’s Broadway-style show celebrating 100 years of Broward County history.

“We’re bringing Neil’s vision of the production to life,” said Aquilino, who also will perform with singer-dancer Ella Noriega. Noriega will sing the title song from the 1960 film “Where the Boys Are.”

Aquilino said he drew inspiration for his performance in “WE” from singers Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Al Martino. “Sinatra has such a unique style of story-telling” and shows his emotions in his singing, Aquilino said. “My voice identifies with Tony Bennett,” he added. Aquilino said he watched the film “The Godfather” to see Martino’s behavior and style.

His dance technique came from his musical theater-style dance training, he said.
