Artists took to the street – specifically, along and nearby Fort Lauderdale’s Avenue of the Arts (NW 7th Ave.) – to transform the community with vibrant mural artworks during the Avenue of the Arts Festival (@aotafest) from January 22-28.

The second annual festival, presented by Twenty6North Productions with sponsorship support from Broward Cultural Division, included four panel discussions, temporary chalk street art, and vivid public art murals painted by local and international artists.

Throughout the week, 26 visual artists painted murals on 12 buildings that transformed the landscape throughout the Progresso Village and historic Sistrunk community neighborhoods. Fourteen chalk artists created the festival’s “Chalk Zone,” at New River Learning Center, which provided children with hands-on opportunities to explore their artistic abilities, creating an interactive and family-friendly experience.

Beyond the visual artworks, AOTA fest featured discussion panels at Broward College Downtown Center of art and business leaders, and educators, who shared insights that fostered dialogue about the role of art in society.

AOTA fest’s mission to ignite creativity and support a thriving cultural community in Greater Fort Lauderdale lived up to its promise, leaving a colorful mark on our community and inspiring its attendees to embrace and appreciate art in many forms

The painted murals can still be viewed by visiting the 12 locations. Learn more online at AOTAfest.com and view AOTA’s 2024 mural map pinned on their Instagram profile.
