Allen Paul began learning the piano at the age of 3, taught by his mother, an elementary music teacher. His early years were filled with discoveries of jazz, blues, funk, gospel, and other styles.. He capped off this start by winning the Florida State Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition at age 17 and performing with the Tampa Bay Symphony.

Allen continued his studies in the University of Miami classical piano program, but he soon switched to jazz piano. Never one to be limited to one style, he and his friends started an R&B band. Allen began writing songs for the band, and one of his compositions “Come My Way” was the song the band selected to play during the 1996 Mastercard National Talent Search. The band won 1st place in the Southeastern region and came in second place nationally. Later, Allen worked in church music full-time and built a reputation as a top notch gospel musician.

Once he re-entered the South Florida music scene, he quickly became a sought after sideman with artists of all types and styles, and performed on stage at the Jazz in the Gardens music festival in Miami Gardens two years in a row. Artists that Allen has accompanied include Miki Howard, Betty Wright, Raheem Devaughn, Jaguar Wright, Mike Phillips, Anthony David, Algebra Blessett, Chantae Cann and many others. His jazz fusion trio “Unclazzified”, released an EP in 2014, and was featured at the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival in Haiti. For many years, he served as musical director for “Flow Fridays”, a weekly music and poetry event at Piano Hollywood in Fort Lauderdale, FL. , and for his own group, the Allen Paul Band, a collection of top musicians and vocalists.

He is the co-founder and host artist of the summer concert series “Sit Sing and Swing” along with singer-songwriter LaVie, as well as the host and founder of “Keep The Music Playing”, a livestream acoustic concert series established in the midst of the 2020 pandemic, which gave much needed exposure and opportunities to fellow musicians and guest artists.

He has been married to his wife Lia for over 24 years and has 3 children. Along with his performance career, he is a published author, podcaster, coach and advocate for musicians in the areas of business, creativity and faith. His first book, “God and Gigs: Succeed as a Musician without Sacrificing your Faith,” along with his study guides and devotionals are available at all bookstores.
