Born in 1967 in Chicago, while still an undergraduate, Tina La Porta developed a body of work photographing the Pro-Choice movement in Chicago, Milwakee, Waashington D.C. and New York City. In 1992 Ms. La Porta moved to New York's East Village to pursue her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at The School of Visual Arts. During that time she assisted Naomi Rosemblum while she wrote her book A History of Women Photographers (Abbeville Press). Ms. La Porta’s initial post-graduate work was focused on digital art while she immersed within the global internet art movement of the 1990’s. Currently, her work explores personal experiences related to symptoms of mental illness; side effects of prescription medications and the therapeutic qualities of the artistic process.
