The Dolls of Japan: Shapes of Prayer, Embodiments of Love

Consisting of 75 works, the exhibition features authentic Japanese dolls that are crafted with time-honored methods.

After its month-long stay at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in China, “The Dolls of Japan” exhibition will travel to Miami to showcase Japan’s representative dolls, including: Hina ningyo (Girls’ Festival dolls) and Gogatsu ningyo (Boys’ Day dolls), which have their origins in ancient customs; dolls connected to traditional performing arts like nohbunraku and kabuki; regional dolls from throughout the country; and “creative dolls” produced by contemporary craftspeople.
