Diverse Element Dance Company in Fort Lauderdale Florida will host Bharata Natyam- for New Audiences a performance a series in its 9 season. The program will be held Nov 4th, 2017 6:00pm-7:30pm. This is a performance series which brings the divine art of Bharata Natyam (South Indian Classical Dance) to communities throughout the USA. Mr. Jaan R. Freeman, Artistic Director of New York’s Dakshina Palli, Inc and Bharata Natyam dancer will present this program. Mr. Freeman performs in the rare Bharata Natyam lineage of the late great South Indian Dancer T. Balasaraswati. Freeman a disciple of Nandini Ramani & Priyamvada Sankar, both senior disciples of Balasaraswati.
This program is designed for new audiences but it is a delight for those who are educated and have been exposed to this wonderful art.
This art brings together Hindu Philosophy, Ethics, Hindu Mythology, Carnatic Music (South Indian Music), poetry, rhythm and movement of the 18th century South India. Many of the interpretative dance items draw from Hindu mythology, the puranas (ancient stories) and real life situations and emotions, which brings us into the current time.
The program will feature items of the repertoire with narration and interpretation and an interactive dialogue with the audience throughout the program. Don’t miss this program, performed by a vibrant dancer of this great lineage!
