Broward Nature Book Club

A new book club for adults, the Broward Nature Book Club, is forming through Broward County Parks and Recreation Division. The club will meet once a month on Wednesday, from 9:30 to 11AM, at various natural area sites in northern Broward County. Meetings include a 45-to-60-minute book discussion, followed by a 30-minute “light hike,” led by a Parks naturalist. This season’s theme is “Florida Authors.”

May 18 – The Old Man and the Sea (1951) by Ernest Hemingway – Deerfield Island Park – Set in Bimini, this Hemingway classic is about an elderly Cuban fisherman and his relentless struggle to bring in a huge marlin out in the Atlantic Ocean. The slender book, the source of a famous 1958 film starring Spencer Tracy, was a Pulitzer Prize winner and a contributing factor to Hemingway’s Nobel Prize win in 1954.
