Judge: Juliana Forero
Juliana Forero is Chief Curator for the City of Pembroke Pines (The Frank Art Gallery and Studio 18 Art Complex), and founder and director of Nomad Art Projects. In her most recent independent curator role, Juliana coordinated the art exhibitions for Bailey Contemporary Arts, Historic Ali Cultural Arts, and the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. A native of Colombia, Juliana Forero worked as the Director of Education for Houston Center for Photography prior to relocating to South Florida. Her doctoral dissertation researched the role of the artistic community in the revitalization of the South Bronx, while working in the development department of the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
Juliana holds a Ph.D. in Arts Education, a MA in Arts Administration and a Museum Studies Certificate from Florida State University. Prior to these achievements, she received a BFA in Visual Arts from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, a Certificate in Portrait Photography from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Certificate in Graphic Design from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico.
She has served in multiple grants panels, providing feedback to over 200 artists and arts organizations as a reviewer for the Houston Arts Alliance, Texas Council on the Arts, Florida Department of Cultural Affairs, Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art and Design, Broward Cultural Division’s Creative Investment Program (CIP), Broward Cultural Division’s Cultural Diversity Program (CDP), the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s Artist Innovation Fellowship, and the regional South Florida Cultural Consortium.
