Public Art Project Description
The City of Lauderhill, Florida is seeking to commission several artists to paint a mural on two 4 feet x 8 feet sheets of plywood. Paint and plywood to be supplied by the City. Each artist mural will be attached by the city on the exterior of the chain link fence located at the entrance driveway leading up to the Lauderhill Performing Art Center, (LPAC), located on 441 just North of Sunrise Blvd.( the fence will be at the north end of the LPAC’s parking lot along NW 11th Place). The murals should be fun, playful, big, visible and memorable. All artwork styles will be considered. The artwork should reflect the spirit of Lauderhill, have artistic impact, and can relate to the LPAC. The back of each plywood piece should be painted in either a solid color or have a playful geometric design as it will be seen from Sunrise Blvd Several artists will be selected to develop and present their final designs. The winning artists will be awarded a $1250.00 contract and will be responsible for the creation of the final work.
The painting onto the plywood will be an EVENT!! All artists will gather to an area in the parking lot located inside the fence and paint their murals together. This will be open to the public and the media may be invited.
The application deadline is Sept 21, 2018 and is open to all professional artists located in the South Florida region and has experience working with public or private agencies.
Qualities of Artwork
This Request for Proposal is emphasizing the City of Lauderhill’s desire to commission artwork that represents its diverse community and depicts the city’s mission. Depending on the success of this event, it may be held again for new murals to be placed.

• Artwork painting event: Sept. 28-29, 2018
The project is open to all professional visual artists living in the South Florida area. Artists/artist teams should have experience implementing their mural ideas and work in the public or private realm with government agencies. Artist must be able to effectively work within the project timeline and collaborate with the City Staff and the Public Art Committee whenever it is required
Artists must submit the following:
Proposed concept. Scaled plan of the mural concept in color on any size paper, canvas or digital and any other relevant details.
3 images of past murals.

All submitted complete applications will be reviewed. Applications not meeting the submission guidelines will not be considered.
Criteria for Selecting Proposals
All artists must meet the guidelines of the program.
1. Artistic merit of the concept.
2. Style and Appropriateness: Artwork should demonstrate that it is compatible in relationship to the Sola arts District, the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, and the Lauderhill Community.
3. Technical Considerations and Feasibility: Including the artist’s artistic history and experience in completing public art projects within the timeline and budget,
4. Diversity: Reflects the overall project goal to strive for diversity in style, scale, media and artists working in traditional and contemporary art forms.
