Allen Paul began learning the piano at the age of 3, taught by his mother, an elementary music teacher. His early years were filled with discoveries of jazz, blues, funk, gospel, and other styles.. He capped off this start by winning the Florida State Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition at age 17 and performing with the Tampa Bay Symphony.

Allen continued his studies in the University of Miami classical piano program, but he soon switched to jazz piano. Never one to be limited to one style, he and his friends started an R&B band. Allen began writing songs for the band, and one of his compositions “Come My Way” was the song the band selected to play during the 1996 Mastercard National Talent Search. The band won 1st place in the Southeastern region and came in second place nationally. Later, Allen worked in church music full-time and built a reputation as a top notch gospel musician.

Once he re-entered the South Florida music scene, he quickly became a sought after sideman with artists of all types and styles, and performed on stage at the Jazz in the Gardens music festival in Miami Gardens two years in a row. Artists that Allen has accompanied include Miki Howard, Betty Wright, Raheem Devaughn, Jaguar Wright, Mike Phillips, Anthony David, Algebra Blessett, Chantae Cann and many others.
