Buehler Planetarium and Observatory

Located on the A.Hugh Adams central campus of the Broward Community College offers a broad spectrum of planetarium events. Its erection was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Emil Buehler Trust. With its Zeiss M 1015 projector and its modern audiovisual equipment, this is one of the most advanced planetariums in South Florida. Astronomy lovers are offered sky presentations and telescope observing at the Observatory. Hours: Wednesday Friday and Saturday 8:00pm-10:00pm Price: Free/Adults and children.

      02/04/12- 03/31/12	Teddy's Quest Buehler Planetarium and Observatory Teddy's Quest Presented by Buehler Planetarium and Observatory at Buehler Planetarium and Observatory February 4-March 31, 2012 There are about a thousand years of astronomical observations missing from western knowledge. During all that time the Chinese and Japanese astronomers were patiently observing the skies and recording what they saw. But it wasn’t until 1935 that western astronomers learned of this treasure trove of knowledge – observations of comets, sunspots, and of novae. All of a sudden, western astronomers had available to them the missing thousand years.
      02/03/12- 03/31/12	Stars of Jade Buehler Planetarium and Observatory Stars of Jade Presented by Buehler Planetarium and Observatory at Buehler Planetarium and Observatory February 3-March 31, 2012 There are about a thousand years of astronomical observations missing from western knowledge. During all that time the Chinese and Japanese astronomers were patiently observing the skies and recording what they saw. But it wasn’t until 1935 that western astronomers learned of this treasure trove of knowledge – observations of comets, sunspots, and of novae. All of a sudden, western astronomers had available to them the missing thousand years.
      02/01/12- 03/28/12	Stories for a Starry Night Buehler Planetarium and Observatory Stories for a Starry Night Presented by Buehler Planetarium and Observatory at Buehler Planetarium and Observatory February 1-March 28, 2012 This hour-long live presentation uses our digital planetarium theater to educate and entertain people by presenting them with stories and information about the objects that are currently visible in our evening sky, like bright stars, planets, and constellations. As each season shares a different slice of the heavens above, visitors should come back periodically to discover all the wonders of our Florida skies.
      02/01/12- 02/29/12	Dawn of Astronomy Buehler Planetarium and Observatory Dawn of Astronomy Presented by Buehler Planetarium and Observatory at Buehler Planetarium and Observatory February 1-February 29, 2012 We journey back in time to discover why the pyramids and Stonehenge were built. The incredible achievements of early man in measuring the length of the year, developing a concept of the zodiac, and predicting exactly how the Sun and Moon move in the sky are celebrated.
      02/01/12- 02/29/12	Voyager Encounters Buehler Planetarium and Observatory Voyager Encounters Presented by Buehler Planetarium and Observatory at Buehler Planetarium and Observatory February 1-February 29, 2012 This show chronicles our exploration at the amazing worlds of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. See a world with a hurricane the size of three Earths. Explore the icy rings of Saturn. Witness bizarre volcanic moons spewing sulphur and methane. This fascinating program is filled with beautiful color images of the outer planets.

These stories are used to explain natural phenomena, such as the Sun and the Moon. They also teach lessons about the society and what it holds important. Many of these stories are about the wonders of the sky. Come hear these tales of the African sky.

Visit the unique Universes of the ancient Greek, Egyptian and Chinese cultures. Examine the stars through the eyes of navigators, astronomers, and even astrologers. Observe the skies through different wavelengths, including infrared, X-ray and radio waves. A live tour of the current night sky featuring bright stars, planets and constellations is included.
