About the artist:

Dr. Terri Mitchell, a long-time Mentor for the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra, is an accomplished flutist, a consummate musician and educator. She was just awarded the honor of being placed on the Fulbright Senior Specialist List, making her eligible to receive money from the federal government to teach in her field at institutions of higher learning in other countries. Her new CD Ponteios which contains music by Brazilian and American composers, has been praised by flutists and non-flutists alike. It is available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/DrTerriMitchell. She received her Doctorate in Music from the University of Miami in 2003 where she received the Award for Academic Achievement. She is principal flutist with the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Ars Flores Orchestra. She is an adjunct Professor at Miami Dade College where she teaches flute lessons, Music Appreciation and Jazz and Pop and directs the Falcon Jazz Band. She plays chamber music with the Encore Chamber Ensemble as well as doing freelance work in the South Florida area. She also is the flutist for the Ars Flores V, the resident woodwind quintet of the Ars Flores Symphony. She has lectured on musicians’ health, the subject of her doctoral research, at the University of Miami and at the Florida Flute Fair as well as in Brazil. She taught the Frost Flute Choir and private lesson at the University of Miami Frost School of Music for many years and designed a seminar on Musician’s Health that took place at the University of Miami. Her article "Healthy Performance" was published in "Flute Talk" magazine. She has played with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe and has performed solos with the Alhambra Orchestra, the Ars Flores Symphony and the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded the SGI Renaissance Award in 2004 for her contributions to the community in the field of music She is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the music honor society.
