dance anywhere

dance anywhere's mission is to blur the line between art practice and art, to heighten public awareness of all forms of dance and art, to challenge and transform the public's perceptions of where and how art can occur, and to build community through art. dance anywhere is an annual public performance that occurs on a specific day each year, inviting thousands of people to dance, wherever they are, at twelve noon. By inviting dancers throughout the country and the world to stop and dance on a specific date and time, the project integrates art into everyday public spaces and exposes unsuspecting audiences to inspiring dance. Anyone is encouraged to participate, and the project involves people of all ages, abilities, nationalities, and backgrounds. dance anywhere was first performed on April 22, 2005 by dance and performance artist Beth Fein and others. The event has been selected as a Cornerstone Event for Bay Area National Dance Week for four consecutive years since its inception. This year, dance anywhere will take place on March 26, 2010.
