Miami Art Museum

Miami Art Museum is dedicated to engaging a broad public with art from the twentieth century through the present. MAM's collection, which Art in America magazine called "the quintessential Miami collection" in 1999, looks at international art from the perspective of the Americas and reflects the cosmopolitan makeup of Miami, forging connections among diverse groups and ideas. Among the artists represented in the collection are Carlos Alfonzo, Jos? Bedia, Fernando Botero, Chuck Close, Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Edouard Duval-Carri?, Teresita Fern?ndez, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ann Hamilton, Guillermo Kuitca, Morris Louis, Ana Mendieta, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Rub?n Torres-Llorca, George Segal, Lorna Simpson, and Frank Stella, among many others.

Think of a friend or family member whose figure could be exaggerated or distorted and pictured in a fanciful situation. Express your imagination in the auditorium painting workshop. Artist Dara Friedman will discuss the making of "Dancer" and its relation to her previous films at 6:30pm. Space is limited. First come, first seated.     02/18/12	Lecture by David Joselit: "Beyond Repetition: Marcel Duchamp's Readymades" Miami Art Museum Lecture by David Joselit: "Beyond Repetition: Marcel Duchamp's Readymades" Presented by Miami Art Museum at Miami Art Museum February 18, 2012 Marcel Duchamp is famous for inventing the “readymade”—a form of art that reframes ordinary commodities as art. This seemingly simple gesture has had an enormous impact on art since 1960. By focusing on the objects on view at MAM, scholar and critic David Joselit will give an account of the readymade’s complexity and variety. MAM members free, non-members free with admission.

In the workshop, make your own drawing of a different part of the story...or even an illustration from another favorite fairy tale or book. Also enjoy a live performance of Red Riding Hood with the Young Patronesses of the Opera. Presented by MetLife Foundation. Additional support provided by Miami Salon Group, Inc.
