Damien B. Contemporary Art Center

Damien B. Contemporary Art Center is a non-profit organization that brings breakthrough contemporary art into light by promoting local and international artists, providing them with studio space and creative resources, and by establishing art education and outreach programs in the community. The art center is situated in one of the most low-income neighborhoods in Miami. They dedicate their time and resources to form a close relationship with the neighboring community through educational and cultural programs. Their youth programs play a major role in the rehabilitation and positive self-growth of the surrounding community, which has an impact on the greater metropolitan area as well. These programs provide the much needed motivation for these children to be able to achieve their personal goals and help instill their ability to reach their highest potential. Because of the city's growing economical success, art studios have become increasingly harder to afford for artists of all levels, let alone the emerging talents. Damien B. Contemporary Art Center provides the opportunity for artists to obtain private studio work space at a nominal fee. This, in turn, allows them to concentrate on creative projects in an conducive environment through interaction with other resident artists as well as established guest artists. It also creates an environment for the artists to develop relationships with the public through exhibitions, outreach, and networking. Visual art is a very powerful source. Damien B. Contemporary Arts Center intends to use this source as a means to maintain and further advance an important cohesive social and cultural identity in their community.
