The band has performed throughout the southern United States, Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Saint Kitts, and Guyana for all branches of the Armed Forces and State Department As the official military band of Florida, unit members have enjoyed performing for many of the official State functions, such as the Governor's Inauguration, official visits of United States dignitaries including the President of the United States, and numerous foreign leaders In times of disaster, the band has supported the needs of our local communities in multiple roles, including providing relief supplies from the Florida Keys to Palm Beach during Hurricane Wilma for the residents of South Florida Organized in February 1930 as the Band Section, Headquarters Battery, 265th Coast Artillery, the 13th Army Band has served the State of Florida and Nation for over 70 years   This May 29th, the 13th Army Band will be featured at Bailey Concert Hall One night only Come join us for a FREE concert giving back to the community Cold Stone Creamery will also be present for frosty treats]]>

The greatest jazz musicians of the 20th century have been immortalized by their music and now the Miramar Cultural Center ArtsPark presents timeless iconic images that capture each artist's unique essence in the exhibit All that Jazz: Photographs of Jazz Legends in the Ansin Family Gallery at the Miramar Cultural Center through May 2013   Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Quincy Jones and others are featured in the exhibit which includes work by William Gottlieb and Herman Leonard, two of the genre’s best known photographers   While Gottlieb’s classic jazz photography spans the 1940s and 1950s, his work is timeless and is still being reproduced today In 1994, the United States Postal Service selected Gottlieb's portraits of Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Mildred Bailey and Jimmy Rushing for a series of commemorative postage stamps His work can also be found in the Library of Congress and has appeared in newspapers, television documentaries, magazines, museums and on more than 250 CD covers   Called "the greatest jazz photographer in the history of the genre" by President Bill Clinton, Leonard’s photographs are a unique record of the jazz scene of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s with 155 original prints on display in the Smithsonian Museum’s permanent collection He received an Honorary Master’s of Science in Photography from The Brooks Institute of Photography and was awarded the coveted Lucie Award for Portraiture, the Milt Hinton Award for Excellence in Jazz Photography from the Jazz Photographer's Association, the Excellence in Photography Award from the Jazz Journalists Association and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Downbeat Magazine   This exhibition is free and open to the public For more information, visit or call (954) 602-4500]]>
